FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

  • The simple answer is no. Knowing how to play the games may be an asset and will boost your self-efficacy, but it certainly isn’t a requirement! Provide a safe space for your students to learn and grow, use the same best practices that you bring to your classroom pedagogy to facilitate their learning.

  • Multiplayer competitive video games can be played as an esports competition. Traditionally esports are viewed as having a professional league, but many have broadened this definition to include other forms of competitive gaming.

  • If your school administration has granted your program approval to play remotely from home, you will be able to play together. You can use your school’s digital communication platform (ie: Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams) to arrange practice times and meetings. For more information please fill out our contact form.

  • One of our goals is to provide gaming options that are accessible and equitable by including multiple game titles that are free-to-download and cross-platform-playable. Please note that some titles do have a download fee. See your provincial association for local fee considerations.

  • This depends on the games your students want to play. Poll your students to see where their interest lies so you know what gear is required. Many games are playable on school devices if IT will allow you to download them. Others may require a console in which case you can request funding, hold a fundraiser, or apply for a tech grant to get your program started.

  • Offering an in-school club is a great way to explore esports without involving external connections from IT. They’re also a great way to build community within your school and are an excellent addition to spirit week activities! If you’re ready to test the waters with a friendly 1-on-1 match with another school, be sure to join our educator’s discord server to find other schools who want to play.

  • Esport Canada competitions are open to k12 students in Canada. At this time we are only offering competition for ages 11-18 but will be expanding to include resources for hosting in-school competition for students ages 5-10.
