Esport Canada sends Tekken Player, Kyle Kazama, to Compete at IESF World Esports Championships in Romania

Winnipeg, Manitoba - Esport Canada is proud to announce Kyle “Kyle Kazama” Mamaat as the 2023 Canadian Tekken champion, set to represent the country at the International Esports Federation's (IESF) World Esports Championship. The highly anticipated championship event is scheduled to take place in Iasi, Romania, from August 26th to September 3rd, 2023. Kyle Kazama will face off against players from Panama, Senegal, Estonia, and Laos on August 26 in the Groups Stage in order to earn his spot in the single elimination championship brackets.

Kyle's journey to the global stage began with his impressive performance in the Canadian national qualifiers this past spring, hosted by Incendium, where Kyle claimed the title of Esport Canada's champion Tekken player. His dedication, skill, and passion for competitive gaming have earned him the opportunity to represent Canada on an international platform, showcasing the immense talent and potential that resides within the nation's esports scene.

When asked about the significance of competing in the IESF World Esports Championships, Kyle shared that “[Representing] Canada on one of the biggest stages in gaming is a good opportunity to put our country on the map. I want to show that we can also compete on a high level. I'm not just bringing myself, I'm the whole community with me!" 


Kyle's journey is not only about personal accomplishment; he aims to inspire fellow Canadian competitors to chase their esports dreams. "I hope that I can perform well so that I can show everyone that they can also qualify and participate in events like this. I'm in my early 30s and this will be my first 'big tournament' representing Canada, there's no rush. Just enjoy the games and strive to be better!" he added.
